Rogaine & Minoxidil
Hair loss affects quite a large number of people, although it is far more prevalent in men than it is in women. There are, however, only two hair loss treatments that have the approval of the FDA. This is because no drug can be available to the public unless it has been through trials overseen by government agencies. Minoxidil is one FDA approved drug, it is also know by the brand name of Rogaine.
Minoxidil, or Rogaine was used originally for treating people with high blood pressure – a side effect of the drug was that it tended to stimulate hair growth. Originally the drug was only available on prescription but because side effects are minimal in most people it is now available over the counter. In the form of Rogaine foam, the drug is applied to the scalp twice a day, although it is possible to buy cheaper, unbranded forms. Side effects can be breathlessness and dizziness, in some cases people experience scalp irritation. When this happens it is advisable to stop the treatment while you seek advice from your doctor.
While there are two FDA approved hair loss treatments for men, the only one that is considered safe for both sexes is Minoxidil or Rogaine for women. Most people will of course ask, does Rogaine work? Well yes, it does seem to work in a large number of cases but only when used over a period of time. With Rogaine or Minoxidil side effects risk is minimal, it is difficult to say which is better Avocar or Rogaine because there seems to be more information on the latter. When taking Rogaine women are advised not to take above 2% strength unless absolutely necessary. So in what way does Rogaine really work? Well, it has to be said that the drug does not prevent hair loss, rather it stimulates hair growth to deal with the problem.
People often ask if Rogaine does work on frontal baldness, most people find that Rogaine does work, but may work better when used in conjunction with Propecia. For those who use Rogaine, results can take up to six to eight months to become noticeable, at first the hair may come but appear thin, this should thicken as time goes on. When used with Propecia retin, Rogaine or Minoxidil, some experts argue, helps advance the absorption of the latter into the hair follicles. If you ask does Minoxidil work? Well then experts would say yes it does in the majority of cases, but it may need the help of another drug for some people.
