Types Of Hair Transplants

When people start losing their hair they are generally unhappy. Most people will look for some type of hair loss remedy to prevent further hair loss and encourage new hair growth. Often people will start with natural treatments and then progress to other treatments. This is particularly the case with male pattern baldness which is usually the type of hair loss that is the most difficult to treat outside of hair replacement surgery or hair transplants.

While successful hair transplants have only been going for around thirty years research in this area goes back a long way before that. It was the Japanese who first started experimenting with transplanting hair to see whether it could be used to counteract disfigurement. A man called Norman Orentreich is considered to be the father of hair transplant surgery. Nowadays hair transplants are becoming more and more common, especially for men and the results are generally thought to better than with other types of hair replacement.

There are different types of hair transplants. If you really want a hair transplant then you might consider treatments such as the one known as the Woods technique. In this method of hair transplant the surgeon doing the transplant will take hair from other parts of the body and transplant them onto the scalp. Hair transplants are usually recommended as beneficial to those people looking who are not looking for an instant solution. This type of hair transplant is for those willing to undergo long-term treatment. Good hair transplants take time and don’t deliver instant results.

Some surgeons undertake what are known as follicular transplants. Here the surgeon takes individual hair follicles and transplants them. This is a very delicate task as the person doing it has to ensure that the nerves and capillaries are preserved. Done in this way a person can expect results within about eight months when hair growth should be about ninety percent of normal growth. This follicular unit transplantation is a high precision task. The Bosley clinic has worked with hair transplant and restoration for a good number of years and aims at achieving transplants that are virtually the same as ordinary hair growth – resembling a person’s natural hair pattern as closely as possible. Nowadays people also have their hair loss treated by laser which is quite a safe procedure. Laser treatment may also be used to treat the scarring that may have occurred in a previous unsuccessful transplant.
